The state minister for ICT and National Guidance, Kabbyanga Godfrey Baluku, has officially launched Postcom, a new national e-commerce platform developed by Posta Uganda,

The move is expected to accelerate Uganda’s digital economy and expand market access for small businesses.

The launch, held at the Uganda Media Centre on Tuesday, marks a significant milestone in the country’s ongoing implementation of the Digital Transformation Roadmap (FY2023/24–2027/28), which aims to position Uganda as a competitive and digitally inclusive economy.

Speaking at the launch, Hon. Kabbyanga said the introduction of Postcom demonstrates government’s commitment to harnessing technology to empower entrepreneurs and stimulate economic growth.

“Today, we are witnessing a major step forward in Uganda’s digital journey. Postcom is not just an e-commerce platform—it is a gateway for our micro, small and medium enterprises to access wider markets and fully participate in the digital economy,” he said.

The platform provides a secure and accessible online marketplace where Ugandans can showcase, sell, and purchase locally produced goods. It is particularly tailored to support MSMEs, which form the backbone of Uganda’s economy but often face challenges accessing broader markets.

Hon. Kabbyanga emphasized that Postcom aligns with national priorities under the Buy Uganda Build Uganda (BUBU) policy by promoting locally made products and strengthening domestic value chains.

“Through Postcom, we are unlocking new opportunities for our entrepreneurs to access wider markets both locally and internationally, while leveraging Posta Uganda’s nationwide network to ensure efficient last-mile delivery,” he noted.

The integration of Posta Uganda’s extensive logistics infrastructure is expected to address one of the biggest barriers in e-commerce—reliable delivery—especially in rural and underserved areas. By combining digital trade with physical distribution networks, the platform aims to bridge the gap between producers and consumers across the country.

Government officials say the initiative will also contribute to increasing household incomes by enabling more Ugandans to engage in online commerce, while enhancing digital literacy and inclusion.

Hon. Kabbyanga commended the leadership of Posta Uganda for spearheading the initiative and called for collective participation from both public and private sectors.

“I commend the Board and Management of Posta Uganda for this forward-looking initiative. I call upon MDAs, the private sector, and all Ugandan entrepreneurs to embrace Postcom as a tool for economic transformation,” he said.

Industry stakeholders have welcomed the development, noting that the platform could play a critical role in formalizing informal businesses and improving their competitiveness in both local and export markets.

As Uganda continues to invest in ICT infrastructure and digital services, Postcom is expected to serve as a catalyst for innovation, trade expansion, and inclusive growth—reinforcing the country’s ambition to become a digitally driven economy.
